stamps / collector's mark ☜☞ sellos / marca del coleccionista

It is not unusual to find sueltas with a stamp on the first page or title page. These often show ownership by a previous collector or a library. In general terms, stamping a book is frowned upon. However, these stamps and owners marks can add considerable interest if associated with a former owner of scholarly stature or a noted collector. Embossed stamps were a less obtrusive way of marking ownership, but could harm the paper considerably. They were designed to make theft more difficult.
