The original French 1765 work Les Amans malheureux, ou le Comte de Comminge by François-Thomas-Marie de Baculard d'Arnaud became the basis of Giacomo Antonio Gualzetti’s Italian adaptation entitled Gli amori di Commingio. Comella’s work is the 1804 Spanish “free” translation from the Italian.
